Can ChatGPT read your site?

Check whether the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Bing and six more AI assistants can reach your page, and whether they see its text. It takes under a minute.

Free, no signup. We fetch the page the way each AI crawler does - nothing is stored.

What this checks

  • robots.txt rules for 22 documented AI crawlers: OpenAI’s OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and GPTBot, Anthropic’s Claude crawlers, PerplexityBot, Bingbot, Applebot, Meta, Amazon, DuckDuckGo and Mistral’s crawlers, plus the Google-Extended and Applebot-Extended training controls.
  • A live request as each crawler, because a CDN or firewall can refuse a bot that robots.txt allows. Cloudflare can block AI crawlers at the edge: since September 15, 2026, new domains block AI training and agent bots on pages that show ads by default.
  • The raw HTML, without running JavaScript. Vercel found that ChatGPT and Claude’s crawlers download JavaScript files but don’t execute them, so text rendered in the browser is invisible to them.
  • The basics engines read first: noindex, title, meta description, H1, structured data, response time, sitemap and llms.txt.

Search crawlers vs training crawlers

Blocking a training crawler and blocking an answer crawler are different decisions. According to OpenAI’s crawler documentation, GPTBot gathers training data, while OAI-SearchBot decides whether your site can appear in ChatGPT search answers at all. Many sites block GPTBot on purpose and keep OAI-SearchBot open. The results above flag a blocked training crawler in amber and a blocked answer crawler in red.

FAQ

Why can't ChatGPT see my website?

The three usual causes: robots.txt disallows OpenAI's crawlers (OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search, ChatGPT-User for live browsing); a firewall or CDN refuses them (Cloudflare can block AI crawlers at the edge, and since September 15, 2026 new domains block AI training and agent bots on pages with ads by default); or the page's text only appears after JavaScript runs, which these crawlers don't do.

Does blocking GPTBot remove me from ChatGPT answers?

Not by itself. GPTBot collects training data. ChatGPT search uses OAI-SearchBot, and OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers. This check reports training crawlers separately for that reason.

Is this check really free?

Yes. It fetches your page as a browser and as each AI crawler, reads robots.txt, and inspects the raw HTML. No AI model is involved, nothing is stored, and you don't need an account.

My site passes. Why don't AI assistants recommend it?

Being readable only makes you eligible. Assistants recommend the pages that answer the buyer's question best and that other sites mention. GEOHATS tracks which questions you lose and who wins them instead, then helps you publish the page that wins.
