# How to Get Your Agency Recommended in AI Search (2026)

Agencies have no product page to rank, so roundups, verified reviews, a better comparison page and hand-written Reddit answers carry everything. Here is the method, with a YouTube agency as the example.

By Daniel Borodin (Founder, GEOHATS) · Updated October 24, 2026 · https://geohats.com/blog/how-to-get-your-agency-recommended-in-ai-search-2026

TL;DR - The direct answer

To get your agency recommended in AI search, get named in the sources AI already reads: a few cited roundups (paid placements disclosed, in a sensible position), verified client reviews on platforms like Clutch, a better comparison page of your own, and hand-written, disclosed Reddit answers. Then target specific niches and locations rather than broad "best agency" terms.

## Why agencies are invisible in AI answers

When a buyer asks AI for the "best YouTube agency for coaches and consultants in 2026", the assistant doesn't know which agency is best. It searches, reads the pages it retrieves, and summarizes what they say. Google describes its AI features as grounded in content from its Search index and "rooted in our core Search ranking and quality systems" ([Google Search Central, Optimizing for generative AI search 2026](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide)). The sources panel in Google AI Overviews shows which pages fed the answer; how Google picks them is covered in [our AI Overviews guide](/blog/google-ai-overviews-optimization-in-2026-how-to-get-your-site-featured).

That is the problem for a service business. You have no product page, no feature table and no free trial for a reviewer to test. The pages AI reads are third-party roundups ("top YouTube agencies for coaches"), review platforms and Reddit threads. If your agency isn't named on any of them, AI has no reason to mention you.

The fix is not to out-rank the incumbents with your homepage. It is to get your agency named inside the sources AI already cites, and to become one of those sources yourself.

Top 100

Clutch is among the 100 most-cited domains in AI answers, alongside Yelp, G2 and Trustpilot ([Peec, 30M sources, Mar 2026](https://peec.ai/blog/top-domains-cited-by-ai-search-analysis-based-on-30m-sources))

## Way 1
The paid way: placements in cited roundups

The fastest way into AI answers is a page AI already reads. Take the roundups cited for your buyer question, find the owner of each, and ask what it would cost to add your agency. Many independent owners will take a fee. The negotiation, step by step, is in [how to get your SEO tool cited in AI search](/blog/how-to-get-your-seo-tool-cited-in-ai-search-2026).

Two findings shape how you buy. Peec's study of nearly 200,000 AI responses found that maximum impact "is often reached after just a few repeated placements", so four or five cited lists is enough. It also found rank matters: a #1 spot in a cited listicle lifted B2B SaaS visibility by 16.5 percentage points and moved brands earlier in the answer ([Peec, The Listicle Rank Effect, May 2026](https://peec.ai/blog/the-listicle-rank-effect-what-nearly-200-000-ai-responses-across-8-ai-engines-reveal-about-brand-visibility)). **The cheapest slot, last on the list, is also the weakest.** The study covered B2B SaaS, MarTech and finance rather than agencies, and it is observational, so treat it as direction, not a formula.

**Keep it above board:** a paid placement is advertising. In the US the FTC expects a material connection to be disclosed "clearly and conspicuously" ([FTC, Endorsement Guides FAQ](https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/ftcs-endorsement-guides-what-people-are-asking)), and any paid link should carry rel="sponsored" or nofollow under Google's link spam policy ([Google, Spam policies 2026](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies)). Only pay to be listed where your agency genuinely fits.

The paid route at a glance. Prices are what owners have asked in Daniel's outreach, not fixed rates.
| Item | Typical figure | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cost per placement | ~$100 to $150 | What one independent owner has asked to add an agency; negotiable. |
| Number of lists | 4 to 5 | Peec saw impact plateau after a few placements in cited lists. |
| Position | As high as your fit justifies | Higher ranks lifted visibility more in Peec's data; last place is cheapest and weakest. |
| Rough total | ~$500 to $600 | The per-page rate across four or five cited lists. |
| Guarantee | None | Engines re-weight sources over time; treat it as a nudge, not a lock. |

**The mechanism, honestly.** You are not bribing the AI. You are placing your agency inside human-written pages the AI retrieves and reads. AI still decides, but now your agency is one of the options it sees named across several sources instead of zero.

## Review platforms and your Google Business Profile

For service businesses, review platforms do much of the work. Peec's 30-million-source analysis found Clutch, Yelp, Trustpilot and G2 among the 100 most-cited domains and summed up the pattern: "When AI needs to recommend something, it looks at review platforms" ([Peec, Mar 2026](https://peec.ai/blog/top-domains-cited-by-ai-search-analysis-based-on-30m-sources)).

Clutch is built for B2B services, and its reviews are hard to fake. Clients log in through LinkedIn, Google or a company email, "every review is checked by a human editor before it's published", and Clutch says it rejected 10 percent of submitted reviews in 2025 for signs of falsified information ([Clutch, Methodology](https://clutch.co/methodology)). That verification is exactly why the reviews carry weight.

- **Ask real clients for reviews** on Clutch and similar platforms, naming the service you delivered so the review matches the buyer question.
- **Keep your Google Business Profile complete** if you serve local clients. Google says Business Profiles "can help your products and services to be visible in both AI responses and other Google Search results" ([Google Search Central 2026](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide)).
- **Never buy or write fake reviews.** The FTC's 2024 final rule prohibits the "sale or purchase" of fake reviews and testimonials and lets the agency seek civil penalties ([FTC, Aug 14, 2024](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/08/federal-trade-commission-announces-final-rule-banning-fake-reviews-testimonials)).

## Way 2a
Build a better comparison page (free)

Instead of paying to be in someone else's list, publish a page that is a better source than the one currently cited. The workflow is short: give a GEO prompt the topic (your buyer question), your domain, and the URL of the top competitor page currently cited, so the model can see exactly what it needs to beat. The structure that page should follow is in [the page structure AI assistants cite](/blog/the-content-ai-assistants-actually-cite-page-structure-that-wins-in-2026).

1. **Open your coding tool** (Claude Code or Cursor) and select a strong model such as Claude Opus.
2. **Paste the GEO prompt** with the topic, your domain and the competitor URL filled in.
3. **Add what only you have:** real client results you're allowed to share, your process, your prices or price ranges. Google's guidance is to "consider what in-depth experience you can bring" rather than "recycle what others on the internet have already said".
4. **Publish and index it** in [Google Search Console](https://search.google.com/search-console/about) and [Bing Webmaster Tools](https://www.bing.com/webmasters); ChatGPT draws on several search providers including Google, plus its own index ([Peec, Sep 2026](https://peec.ai/blog/chatgpt-built-its-own-search-index)).

There is no guarantee AI will switch to your page. But the better and more honest the comparison, the better its chance of becoming the cited source. Don't write a page where every competitor is bad and only you are good: buyers read it as an ad. A page that names other agencies' real strengths is more useful to the clients you want, and more credible as a source.

## Way 2b
Reddit, done by hand (free)

Reddit is the most-cited domain in AI answers in Peec's analysis, first or second on every engine tested ([Peec, Mar 2026](https://peec.ai/blog/top-domains-cited-by-ai-search-analysis-based-on-30m-sources)), which makes it the biggest free surface for a service business. Two honest ways in, both under your own name and within each subreddit's rules on self-promotion:

- **The comparison post.** Where the subreddit allows it, title it with the buyer question, for example "best YouTube agencies for coaches and consultants in 2026", and cover several competitors plus your own with the real pros and cons of each. Say up front that one of them is yours.
- **The answer.** Find threads where people already ask, for example a coach asking how to grow on YouTube or which agency to hire, and answer them properly: what actually works, what it costs, what to avoid. Mention your agency as one option and say it's yours.

Lead every answer with real value. For example: "Posting three times a week mattered more than polish. For ideas, take the questions your clients ask or cut your course videos into shorter clips. Disclosure: I run X agency, we do this for coaches, happy to answer questions here." Don't stage the question yourself or ask friends to post as customers: Reddit's Rule 5 says "do not intentionally mislead others" ([Reddit Rules](https://redditinc.com/policies/content-policy)), and its help center lists coordinated voting and multi-account vote manipulation as violations ([Reddit Help, Disrupting Communities](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066412-Disrupting-Communities)). If real clients are happy, they can say so in their own words when they choose to. The full honest-Reddit method is in [our Reddit deep-dive for screen recorders](/blog/how-to-get-your-screen-recorder-recommended-in-ai-search-2026); it applies to agencies unchanged.

**Why value comes before the mention.** A bare "check out X agency" comment helps nobody and gets ignored or removed. A disclosed answer that genuinely helps earns upvotes, and that is the comment worth being quoted.

Subreddits where business owners ask for help include r/entrepreneur, r/smallbusiness, r/marketing, r/socialmedia and r/startups. Rules differ widely, so read each one's sidebar before posting. If you serve a narrower audience, match the subreddit to it, for example a SaaS or creator community.

## The human rule: write Reddit posts yourself

This is the rule that decides whether the Reddit play works. Write every Reddit post and comment yourself, in your own words.

"Never ever use AI for the posts, for the comments. People talk to people, not AI talking to people. People see when it is done by AI and on Reddit people hate AI slop."

**Daniel Borodin, from the video**

Reddit's own spam policy points the same way. It lists "using tools (e.g., bots, generative AI tools) that may break Reddit or facilitate the proliferation of spam" among the behaviors that can violate it, and notes that "community moderators adjudicate what constitutes unwanted/spammy content in their communities" ([Reddit Help, Spam](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043504051-Spam)). Instead of spending two minutes on a clever prompt, spend ten minutes writing a normal post or a genuine comment. It doesn't matter if the grammar is imperfect. You are a person explaining a problem and a solution, and that is what communities reward.

## Niche and local keyword strategy

Don't chase the broad keyword. "Best YouTube agency in 2026" is crowded, and one post or page rarely surfaces for it. Go specific, by niche, by geography and by buyer type. Peec's prompt research supports this: rewording a prompt rarely changes which brands appear, but "a changed qualifier (location, product, demographic, brand) is a new intent" ([Peec, Prompt wording and AI visibility 2026](https://docs.peec.ai/research/prompt-wording-and-ai-visibility.md)).

"The longer your keyword, the more chances that AI is going to actually take that post. More specific you are, more chances you have."

**Daniel Borodin, from the video**

Keyword angles for a YouTube agency serving coaches and consultants. Swap in your own niche, region and buyer type.
| Angle | Example keyword | Own page? |
| --- | --- | --- |
| By niche | best YouTube agency for coaches in 2026 | Yes: a different buyer |
| By niche | best YouTube agency for consultants in 2026 | Yes, if your work for them differs |
| By buyer type | best YouTube agency for SaaS founders in 2026 | Yes: a different buyer |
| By geography | best YouTube agency for coaches in the USA in 2026 | Yes: location is a new intent |
| Rewording | top YouTube agency for coaches | No: same intent as "best" |
| Modifier only | quickest YouTube agency for coaches | Usually not; cover it on the main page |

Google says much the same about its AI search: you "don't have to worry" about covering every long-tail variation ([Google Search Central 2026](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/fundamentals/ai-optimization-guide)). So list the qualifiers that change the answer, then cover each with a comparison page and honest Reddit answers. If you run a marketing agency and want to sell this work to clients, see [GEO for agencies: how to sell and deliver AI visibility](/blog/geo-for-agencies-in-2026-how-to-sell-and-deliver-ai-visibility-as-a-service).

## Which content types get cited

Before you build anything, look at what format AI already cites for your question. The sources panel shows whether the answer came from a roundup, a review platform, a Reddit thread or a video. Match that format.

Video matters more than most agencies expect. YouTube mentions had the strongest correlation with AI visibility of any factor in Ahrefs' 75,000-brand study, about 0.737 ([Ahrefs, Dec 2025](https://ahrefs.com/blog/ai-brand-visibility-correlations/)), and YouTube is the top cited source for Google AI Overviews and AI Mode in Peec's data. Peec also found AI pulls from both the video description and the auto-generated transcript, so check the transcript before publishing ([Peec, YouTube in AI search 2026](https://docs.peec.ai/research/youtube-in-ai-search.md)). The [LinkedIn tool playbook](/blog/how-to-get-your-linkedin-tool-recommended-in-ai-search-2026) shows how one page becomes a video, a LinkedIn article and a Medium post.

- **Roundups** are the default source for "best agency" questions. Get placed on them or out-publish them.
- **Review platforms** such as Clutch carry verified client reviews AI reads when it recommends services.
- **Reddit threads** are the biggest free lever, as long as you write them yourself.
- **YouTube videos** get cited directly. Record one titled with the buyer question.
- **Your own comparison page** becomes a citable source once it is indexed and genuinely better than the incumbent.

## Have GEOHATS do it for you

Everything above is doable by hand. It is also what we built [GEOHATS](/) to run (disclosure: our product). GEOHATS generates the buyer questions your clients ask, tracks who is cited for each across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Grok, and works the gaps: it shows the pages cited instead of you, writes the comparison page, and drafts YouTube, LinkedIn and Medium posts plus a Reddit draft you rewrite in your own words and post yourself. It never posts to Reddit for you.

For an agency, the natural fit is our [done-for-you service](/done-for-you), where we run the whole loop. That engagement carries a 90-day cited-or-refund guarantee: if your brand isn't cited for the buyer questions agreed in the contract within 90 days, you get a full refund. The guarantee covers the done-for-you service, not the self-serve tool.

If you would rather run it yourself, the self-serve tool is a one-time lifetime license from $47, on your own AI keys.

## FAQ: getting your agency cited in AI search

### How do I get my agency recommended in AI search?

Get named in the pages AI already reads. Earn or buy disclosed placements on four or five cited roundups, collect verified client reviews on platforms like Clutch, publish a better comparison page than the ones cited now, and answer Reddit threads yourself with disclosure. Then target specific niches and locations, such as best YouTube agency for coaches in the USA in 2026.

### How much does it cost to buy a mention in a cited listicle?

In Daniel's outreach, independent owners have asked around $100 to $150 to add an agency, so four or five placements runs roughly $500 to $600. The cheapest slot is usually last on the list, and Peec found higher positions lift visibility more, so ask for a position that reflects your fit. Disclose every paid placement.

### Should I use AI to write my Reddit posts and comments?

No. Write them yourself, in your own words, even with small grammatical mistakes. Reddit's spam policy lists generative AI tools among the tools that can facilitate spam, and moderators decide what counts as spam in their communities. Communities reward people talking to people, and a genuine, disclosed answer is the one that earns upvotes.

### Should my agency be on Clutch?

If you sell B2B services, yes. Peec found Clutch among the 100 most-cited domains in AI answers, and Clutch has every review checked by a human editor, with reviewers logging in through LinkedIn, Google or a company email. Ask real clients for reviews that name the service you delivered. Never buy reviews: the FTC's 2024 rule bans buying or selling fake reviews.

### Why does a longer keyword work better for agencies?

Because a specific buyer or place is a different question with fewer strong pages. Peec found rewording a prompt rarely changes which brands appear, while a changed qualifier such as location or audience is a new intent. So best YouTube agency for coaches in the USA deserves its own page, but best and top versions of the same question do not.

### Can I rank a new comparison page over an established competitor?

Sometimes, by writing an honestly better page. Take the topic, your domain and the top competitor URL, draft a higher-quality comparison with a strong model, add your own results and process, then publish and index it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. There is no guarantee AI will switch, but a fair page that names competitors' real strengths has the best chance.

### Does the type of content matter for getting cited?

Yes. Check which formats AI already cites for your question in the sources panel and match them. Roundups, review platforms and Reddit threads are common for agency questions, and YouTube videos are cited directly: Ahrefs found YouTube mentions had the strongest correlation with AI visibility of any factor it measured.
