# AthenaHQ Alternatives in 2026: 6 Tools Compared by Reason to Switch

AthenaHQ tracks 11 models and writes and publishes content. Where it pinches is price structure: credits and plan gates. Here are six alternatives, sorted by why you'd switch, with every fact checked on vendor pages on October 24, 2026.

By Daniel Borodin (Founder, GEOHATS) · Updated October 24, 2026 · https://geohats.com/blog/athenahq-alternatives-2026

Quick answer

The best AthenaHQ alternative depends on why you're leaving. Every model at one flat price: **Trakkr** ($100/month). Analytics priced by prompts: **Peec AI** ($95/month). Lowest price: **Otterly.AI** ($29/month). Enterprise depth: **Profound**. AI-agent readiness: **Scrunch**. Pay once and have pages written and published: **GEOHATS** (our product).

AthenaHQ is not a thin tracker. It monitors 11 AI models, writes briefs and articles, publishes them to eight CMSs, drafts outreach to the sites AI cites, and runs an MCP server with write tools. If a roundup told you it "just monitors", that roundup is out of date.

The reasons to look elsewhere are narrower: the jump from a free tier to $295 a month, credits that charge five times more for a Claude or Grok answer than a ChatGPT one, and features held back for Enterprise. This guide sorts six alternatives by those reasons.

Last updated October 24, 2026. Every fact about AthenaHQ and the alternatives comes from their own public pages, checked October 24, 2026. We have not used AthenaHQ hands-on, so there are no test results here. GEOHATS is our product: its entry is marked and its weak spots are listed like everyone else's.

## What AthenaHQ does well

AthenaHQ's strength is breadth inside one product. Starter tracks **11 AI models**, and the platform writes and publishes content, finds outreach targets, and connects to GA4, Search Console and eight CMSs. It also has a free tier, which none of the six alternatives below offers (they offer trials or a refund window).

- **11 models on Starter:** ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral ([AthenaHQ plans page](https://athenahq.ai/plans)).
- **It writes and publishes.** The Content Hub drafts briefs and full articles from a prompt or topic, rewrites existing pages, and "snipes" competitors' highly cited content. It publishes to Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Framer, Payload CMS, Sanity and Contentful ([AthenaHQ integration docs](https://docs.athenahq.ai/integrations)).
- **Outreach.** It looks up the authors of pages AI cites (byline, published addresses, Hunter.io) and drafts a pitch for each. Nothing is sent for you.
- **MCP server with write tools.** Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Claude Code and other clients can read share of voice and citations, start the content pipeline, or import an article you wrote ([AthenaHQ MCP docs](https://docs.athenahq.ai/api-reference/mcp)).
- **Team features on every paid plan:** unlimited seats with role-based access, brand voice enforcement, a smart robots.txt and llms.txt, and GA4 plus Search Console. SAML SSO and audit logs are Enterprise.

## Why people look for an AthenaHQ alternative

Based on its public pages, the friction is price structure, not product quality. AthenaHQ goes from free to $295 a month with no plan in between, bills in credits where five of its eleven models cost 5 credits per answer, and keeps multi-country tracking, SSO and its citation-prediction model for Enterprise.

### 1\. The price cliff

Essential is free with 300 credits on five models. The next step is Starter at **$295 a month**, or $245 a month billed annually ($2,940 a year), for 3,600 credits. There is nothing between free and $295, the range where Peec AI ($95), [Trakkr](/blog/trakkr-alternatives-2026) ($100) and Otterly.AI ($29 to $189) sit. The broader market is mapped in our [GEO pricing guide](/blog/geo-pricing-guide).

### 2\. Credits: Claude and Grok answers cost five times more

One credit buys one AI response, but AthenaHQ's credit calculator prices **Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral at 5 credits per response**, against 1 credit for ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot. Turning on prompt expansion (three rephrasings per prompt) counts every response four times. "Unlimited prompts" means unlimited within your credit pool.

We ran AthenaHQ's own [credit calculator](https://athenahq.ai/credit-calculator) on October 24, 2026, with one location and prompt expansion off:

| What you track | Credits per month | AthenaHQ's recommendation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 25 prompts, its 7 default models plus Claude, once a week | 1,732 | Fits Starter (3,600 included) |
| 50 prompts, all 11 models, once a week | 6,712 | Starter plus add-on credits |
| 50 prompts, its 7 default models plus Claude, daily | 24,248 | Exceeds the 8,000 credits included with Enterprise |

By our arithmetic, Starter's 3,600 credits cover about 116 prompt runs a month on all 11 models (31 credits each). Weekly tracking of a modest question set fits. Daily tracking across the heavier models does not, and the add-on credit price isn't published.

### 3\. Add-ons and Enterprise gates

- **API access is a paid add-on on Starter**, priced on request. It's included on Enterprise.
- **One country and language on Starter.** Multi-country and multi-language tracking are Enterprise.
- **Enterprise-only features:** the Athena Citation Engine (ACE, a model that predicts citation probability), persona targeting, the Recommendation Engine, the advanced content optimization agent, SAML SSO, audit logs and a 2-hour SLA. Shopify Catalog Optimization needs an Enterprise or Agency plan.

### 4\. No published agency price

AthenaHQ runs an [Agency Program](https://athenahq.ai/agency) with discounted licenses, pitch workspaces and GEO certification, but no price on the page. Its plans table labels Starter "Best for Self-Guided SMBs" and Enterprise "Enterprises & Agencies", so a multi-client agency should expect a sales conversation.

We don't quote user reviews in this guide. G2 blocked our browser when we tried to open AthenaHQ's review page, and we won't paraphrase reviews we couldn't read.

## The 6 alternatives, by reason to switch

1

### [GEOHATS](/)

If you want to pay once and get the page publishedOur product

GEOHATS asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Grok your buyers' questions (Google AI Overviews with a SerpAPI key), shows the pages they cite instead of you, writes the page built to win each lost question, and publishes it to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer, Ghost, HubSpot, Wix (beta), GitHub or a webhook. Then it re-checks whether the answer changed.

The difference from AthenaHQ is the meter. There are no credits: you connect your own AI keys and each provider bills you at cost. The app estimates $0.012 (Grok) to $0.045 (Gemini) per question per engine, about $4 for a 30-question scan on all five ([GEOHATS pricing](/pricing)).

**Pick it if**

- You want no monthly bill: $47 (3 sites), $97 (10) or $249 (unlimited), once
- You track Claude and Grok and don't want a credit multiplier
- Your coding agent should publish: the [MCP server](/mcp) saves agent-written pages through a quality gate and publishes them

**Skip it if**

- You need Copilot, AI Mode, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral
- You need SSO, a SOC 2 report or GA4 attribution
- You don't want to create and pay for AI provider keys

One-time, [current prices](/pricing)

2

### [Trakkr](https://trakkr.ai/pricing)

If you want every model at one flat price

Growth is $100 a month ($1,000 a year) for one brand tracked daily: 50 prompts, all 8 models, 25 article credits a month, 3 seats and MCP access, with publishing to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify and GitHub. Scale is $500 a month for 10 brands with white-label client portals and REST API access. Claude and Grok cost the same as ChatGPT, which is the opposite of AthenaHQ's credit table.

**Pick it if**

- You track one brand daily on Claude and Grok
- You want articles written and published inside a subscription at about a third of Starter's price

**Skip it if**

- You need Copilot or AI Mode (not among its 8 models)
- You want a free tier (14-day trial, card required)

From $100/mo

3

### [Peec AI](https://peec.ai/pricing)

If you want analytics priced by prompts, not credits

Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts on 3 models you choose, with unlimited users, daily tracking, an MCP server and separate agency plans. Pricing is easy to forecast because it counts prompts, not responses. Every tier and add-on is in [Peec AI pricing](/blog/peec-ai-pricing-in-2026-tiers-limits-and-what-it-really-costs).

**Pick it if**

- Your job is competitive analytics: share of voice, sentiment, sources
- You're an agency (plans from $245 a month)

**Skip it if**

- You need Claude or Grok (Enterprise only)
- You want content written or published
- You need more than 3 models without paying $35 to $165 per extra model a month

From $95/mo

4

### [Otterly.AI](https://otterly.ai/pricing)

If $295 a month is the problem

Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, with unlimited team members and GEO audits. Standard ($189) has 100 prompts plus API and MCP access. Claude is an add-on: $29, $109 or $439 a month on Lite, Standard or Premium. Details in [Otterly.AI pricing](/blog/otterly-ai-pricing-in-2026-tiers-limits-and-is-it-worth-it).

**Pick it if**

- You need monitoring and audits on a small budget
- You want to try it free for 7 days without a card

**Skip it if**

- You need content written: Otterly recommends, it doesn't write
- Claude matters to you (it's a paid add-on)

From $29/mo

5

### [Profound](https://www.tryprofound.com/pricing)

If you're moving up, not down

Profound sells a free 7-day trial (50 recommended prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews; you can't load your own) and then a custom Enterprise plan with up to 9 engines, SSO, SOC 2, an API and an MCP server. Its AI Marketer drafts content and stages it in your CMS through connectors that include WordPress, Webflow, Contentful and Sanity. Costs are covered in [Profound pricing](/blog/profound-pricing-in-2026-what-it-actually-costs-and-who-it-s-for).

**Pick it if**

- You have procurement and want the widest enterprise feature set
- You're an agency that wants client workspaces ($399 a month each)

**Skip it if**

- You want a public price after the trial
- You want to test your own questions before you buy

Free trial, then custom

6

### [Scrunch](https://scrunch.com/pricing/)

If AI agents struggle to read your site

Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and 5,000 responses on 4 models (ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Copilot), plus site audits and AI bot traffic. Enterprise adds Agent Pages, which serves a JavaScript-free version of your pages to AI agents from your CDN while humans see the normal site. We cover it in depth in [Scrunch alternatives](/blog/scrunch-alternatives-2026).

**Pick it if**

- Your site is JavaScript-heavy and AI crawlers see little of it
- You want AI bot traffic per page

**Skip it if**

- You need Claude or Gemini below Enterprise
- You need new pages written (Agent Pages reformats existing ones)

From $250/mo

## AthenaHQ vs GEOHATS

Both run the full loop: track buyer questions, find the pages AI cites instead of you, write the page, publish it, and watch whether it gets cited. AthenaHQ does each step with more models, more integrations and enterprise controls. GEOHATS does it for a one-time price on your own AI keys, with an MCP server that can publish.

| Factor | AthenaHQ | GEOHATS |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Price | Free tier; Starter $295/mo ($245 billed annually); Enterprise custom | One-time $47 (3 sites), $97 (10), $249 (unlimited) |
| Usage metering | 3,600 credits/mo on Starter; 5 credits per Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral answer | Your own API keys at provider cost; monthly run limit as an abuse guard |
| Engines | 11 on Starter | ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok; AI Overviews with SerpAPI |
| Content | Briefs, articles, rewrites, competitor "snipes", brand voice rules | Article, comparison, statistics; reviews need your notes, data studies your dataset; automated quality gate |
| Publishing | Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Framer, Payload, Sanity, Contentful | WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer, Ghost, HubSpot, Wix (beta), GitHub, webhook |
| MCP | Broad: metrics, content pipeline, outreach, knowledge base; publish\_content marks a URL live for tracking | 19 tools; saves agent-written pages through the gate and publishes to the connected CMS |
| Outreach | Author lookup (incl. Hunter.io) and drafted pitches | Lists cited third-party pages and drafts emails |
| Analytics integrations | GA4, Search Console, Looker Studio, Slack reports | None; a read-only report link per site |
| Security, team | Unlimited seats, RBAC, SOC II Type 2; SAML SSO on Enterprise | No SSO, no SOC 2 report |
| Try before you pay | Free Essential tier | No trial; 7-day money-back |

**Where AthenaHQ wins:** model coverage, analytics integrations, headless CMS support (Contentful, Sanity, Payload), outreach with author lookup, security reviews, and a free tier to try it.

**Where GEOHATS wins:** cost. A year of AthenaHQ Starter is $2,940 billed annually before add-on credits. GEOHATS's 3-site license is $47 once, plus about $50 a year of AI usage for a monthly 30-question scan on all five engines (our pricing page's estimate). It also tracks Claude and Grok at provider cost and publishes from your coding agent.

Two GEOHATS limits worth knowing: scans go through each provider's API, which is close to but not the same as the consumer app, and each question is asked once per engine per scan by default. Read the trend across scans, not one answer ([how accurate AI visibility trackers are](/blog/how-accurate-are-ai-visibility-trackers-what-the-numbers-really-mean-2026)). The MCP side is compared across vendors in [MCP servers for AI visibility](/blog/run-geo-from-cursor-or-claude-code-mcp-servers-for-ai-visibility-2026).

## When to stay with AthenaHQ

Stay if your tracking fits the credit pool and you use what AthenaHQ does beyond tracking. Switching pays off when the price or a missing capability is the real problem.

- You need Copilot, AI Mode, DeepSeek, Meta AI or Mistral in the same dashboard.
- Your team lives in GA4 and Search Console and wants AI visibility next to traffic.
- You publish to Contentful, Sanity or Payload.
- You want outreach with author email lookup in the same tool.
- Your security review needs SOC II Type 2 and SSO.
- Your volume fits: 25 prompts a week on 8 models used 1,732 of Starter's 3,600 credits in the calculator.

Before you decide, put your real prompt count, models and cadence into the calculator. That number, not the feature list, tells you whether Starter is enough.

## How to switch without losing your baseline

1. **Export your prompts.** Starter includes CSV export; your question list is the asset, not the dashboard.
2. **Run both tools for one cycle** before you cancel, so before-and-after numbers stay comparable.
3. **Close the top gaps with pages.** Answer-first pages with a table, sourced numbers and an FAQ are what AI assistants tend to cite; see [the page structure AI assistants cite](/blog/the-content-ai-assistants-actually-cite-page-structure-that-wins-in-2026). Citations usually move 2 to 8 weeks after a page ships.

## FAQ

### What is the best AthenaHQ alternative in 2026?

It depends on why you're leaving. Every model at one flat price: Trakkr ($100/month). Analytics priced by prompts: Peec AI ($95/month). Lowest price: Otterly.AI ($29/month). Enterprise: Profound. AI-agent readiness: Scrunch. Pay once and have pages written and published: GEOHATS (our product). Checked October 24, 2026.

### How much does AthenaHQ cost?

Essential is free with 300 credits on five models. Starter is $295 a month, or $245 a month billed annually, for 3,600 credits and 11 models. Enterprise is custom. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons on Starter, with prices on request.

### Why do Claude and Grok cost more credits on AthenaHQ?

AthenaHQ's credit calculator lists Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral at 5 credits per response and calls them "heavier"; the other six models cost 1 credit. So one prompt checked once on all 11 models uses 31 credits, against 6 on the six 1-credit models.

### Does AthenaHQ write and publish content?

Yes. Its Content Hub writes briefs and articles, rewrites existing pages and publishes to Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Framer, Payload CMS, Sanity and Contentful. Writing uses content credits.

### Does AthenaHQ have a free trial?

Its pricing page doesn't list a Starter trial. The free Essential tier (300 credits, five models) is the way to try it, and the homepage offers a free 10-minute audit.

### Is there an AthenaHQ alternative without a monthly subscription?

Yes. GEOHATS (our product) is a one-time license from $47 for 3 sites. You connect your own AI keys and pay the providers at cost, about $4 for a 30-question scan on five engines by the app's estimate.
